Sophie's cousin Lauren recently sent Sophie a "Flat Lauren." Sophie's job: Show Flat Lauren a good time around Oahu, and take pictures to send back to Lauren's class in Florida. If this makes no sense to you, it's because you haven't read the book Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown, in which a boy named Stanley Lambchop is accidentally squashed flat by a bulletin board. Although being practically two-dimensional might sound like a drag, Stanley gets to do fun things like get sent in an envelope to visit his friend in another state - no plane fare plus exhorbitant fees for baggage for him!

Apparently thousands of school children around the world each year make their own Flat Stanley's, or Flat Alter Egos, and send them to other children to document their adventures. So, in the spirit of literacy and adventure, we dutifully brought Flat Lauren to her first shindig, a bbq at Waikiki for our friend Kendra's birthday. Kendra is the one with the lei; Josh is her husband. I'm betting you can pick out Flat Lauren, or FL, as she shall be known from now on, all by yourself.
After the party, we walked by the Military Museum so that Daniel could take a picture in front of a tank that looks just like the one on his shirt. FL came along, too. How many other Flats do you think can boast of seeing a beautiful beach and mobile armored weaponry in the same day?
